The Public Information Office reports the arrest of an Elmont woman for DWI – Leandra’s Law on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 2:30 pm in Elmont.
According to Police, officers observed a 2010 Grey Audi stopped in the left lane of Hempstead Turnpike in the vicinity of Litchfield Avenue. The vehicle was facing westbound and was impeding traffic. A woman was standing next to the vehicle in the roadway and holding a stroller which contained an infant. Officers stopped to address the dangerous condition.
A subsequent investigation was conducted and Jacqueline Lopez, 40, of 60 Hummel Avenue was placed under arrest without incident. The vehicle’s passengers included two children ages 1 and 5. The children were released into the custody of a relative.
Defendant Lopez is charged with Driving While Intoxicated, two (2) counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child under 16) under the Leandra Law and two (2) counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. She will be arraigned on Sunday, September 26, 2021 in First District Court, Hempstead.
