The Second Squad reports the arrest of two New Jersey men for Grand Larceny that occurred on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 3:44 am in Woodbury.
According to detectives, Nassau County Second Precinct police responded to the rear parking lot of Ben’ Kosher Deli located at 7971 Jericho Turnpike for a larceny that had just occurred. Upon police arrival, a male employee stated to police he observed on a security camera that two male subjects exited a white Ford van and removed 145 gallons of cooking oil from a storage container. The total loss was in excess of $ 800.00 US currency. A short time later Second Precinct police located two defendants Anthony Davis, 42 of 120 South Harrison Street, Apt 4 East Orange, New Jersey and Bennett Smith, 52 of 412 1st Avenue, Floor 2, Elizabeth Port, New Jersey in the rear lot of 7929 Jericho Turnpike. Both men were then placed into police custody.
Further investigation revealed that the two men were responsible for at least ten other larcenies of oil from nearby locations beginning May 4, 2023, that resulted in a loss of in excess of $ 6,500.00 dollars in US currency. There were no injuries reported.
Defendants Davis and Smith are charged with two counts of Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 3RD Degree and Possession of Burglar’s Tools. Both men will be arraigned on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at First District Court in Hempstead.
