The Fifth Squad reports a Burglary Arrest that occurred on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 12:25 am in Elmont.
According to Detectives, at approximately 12:15am in front of 481 Hempstead Turnpike the male victim, 46, was approached by Defendant Jerome Washington who offered to sell him two yellow metal rings for $10.00 US currency; the victim purchased the rings. The Defendant then proceeded to follow the victim to his residence. After the victim was inside his home, the Defendant unlawfully entered the residence by kicking and damaging the front door. Once inside, the Defendant threatened a second male victim, 47, by throwing a shoe rack and by yelling he wanted his rings back and that he was going to kill him. In fear of his safety, the second male victim ran out of the house. Defendant Washington proceeds to another bedroom where he again kicked the door to gain entry and encountered a seventeen-year-old male victim and again yelled for his rings. The Defendant proceeded upstairs to another bedroom, forced his way through that locked door, approached the first male victim and demanded the two rings; the male victim handed the Defendant the rings. Defendant Jerome Washington exited the residence through the front door. Upon Police arrival the Defendant was placed under arrest at the scene. No injuries were reported. The damaged doors are valued at approximately $1750.00 US currency.
Defendant Jerome Washington is charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Burglary 2nd Degree, Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree, four counts of Criminal Mischief, Petit Larceny and Menacing 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Saturday, October 21, 2023, in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
