The Major Case Bureau is investigating a robbery that occurred at 6:17 am on Friday, February 24, 2023, in Franklin Square.
According to Robbery Squad Detectives, a male subject entered the BP gas station located at 740 Hempstead Turnpike. The subject pointed a small black firearm at the salesclerk and demanded money from the register. The male jumped behind the counter removing an unknown amount of US currency and multiple cartons of cigarettes. The subject then fled in an unknown direction.
Subject is described as a male, 5’8”-5’9” with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a camo jacket, black ski mask and black gloves.

Major Case Squad Detectives report the arrest of Jose Nieves, 28 a homeless man for the above Robbery.
According to Robbery Squad detectives, the investigation revealed that defendant Nieves was responsible for five Robberies that occurred between February 9, 2023, and February 24, 2023. There were no injuries reported in any of the Robberies.
- February 24, 2023; Attempted Robbery Speedway Gas Station, armed with a handgun – 2426 Jerusalem Avenue, Bellmore.
- February 20, 2023; Armed Robbery- Mobil Gas Station, 449 Glen Cove Rd Roslyn
- February 15, 2023; Robbery BP Gas Station, 671 Newbridge Road East Meadow armed with a knife.
- February 13, 2023; Robbery BP Gas Station 200 S Oyster Bay Road Syosset
- February 9, 2023; Robbery Best Western Motel 5080 Sunrise Highway Massapequa
Defendant Jose Nieves is charged with 4 counts of Robbery 1st Degree (sub-4), two counts of Robbery 1st Degree (sub-3) and Attempted Robbery 1st Degree (sub-4). The defendant will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 10. 2023, in First District Court in Hempstead.
