Sixth Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Manhattan man for Grand Larceny and Criminal Impersonation that occurred between February 22, 2020, through August 31, 2022, in Nassau County.
According to detectives, members of the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th Squads conducted joint investigations to identify a subject who visited multiple businesses and fraudulently identified himself as a fire marshal, firefighter or fire investigator. The subject would conduct fraudulent inspections and provide invoices for the inspection and/or fines imposed.
It was determined Michael Carrion, 57, of 200 W. 143rd Street, was responsible and was arrested without incident. Carrion visited the following locations:
- 2/22/2020 – Gourmet Bake Shop located at 775 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park. After the inspection presented an invoice for $476.90 and collected payment.
- 2/18/2022 – Sobol Restaurant located at 218 Merrick Road, Rockville Centre. After the inspection took a payment for $476.60.
- 2/18/2022 – Dunkin Donuts located at 61 N. Village Avenue, Rockville Centre. After the inspection took a payment for $230.
- 3/19/2022 – Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen located at 1015 Green Acres Mall, Valley Stream. After the inspection presented invoices for $970.70 and collected payment.
- 8/31/2022 – AAC Convenience Store located at 27 N. Station Plaza, Great Neck. After the inspection presented invoices for $1,070 and collected payment.
Defendant Carrion is charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Scheme to Defraud 2nd Degree, four (4) counts of Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree and four (4) counts of Petit Larceny. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at First District Court, Hempstead.
