The First Squad reports on the arrest of a Roosevelt female for the Assault of an Officer that occurred on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 1:25 AM in Roosevelt.
According to Detectives, First Precinct Officers while on routine patrol did observe a blue KIA on Park Avenue with no valid NYS inspection sticker and conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop. As Officers were conducting their investigation, the rear occupant, now known as defendant Tiyana Oates, 23 of 98 Park Avenue, was found to have a valid open case for a prior incident leading to Officers attempting to place her under arrest. Defendant Tiyana Oates ignored Officers commands and resisted, flailing her arms and legs before fleeing the scene on foot. The defendant ran towards her home residence located on 98 Park Avenue and in the process one of the Officers attempted to place her under arrest again but fell, sustaining injury to his wrist and both knees. Defendant Tiyana Oates was able to gain entry into her residence on 98 Park Avenue and refused to come out. The Emergency Service Unit responded to scene and defendant Tiyana Oates attempted to flee again by exiting through a window and going onto the roof. ESU Officers were able to safely extract her from the roof and placed her under arrest. The injured Officer and defendant Tiyana Oates were both transported to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment.
Defendant Tiyana Oates is charged with Assault 2nd degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Mischief 4th degree. She will be arraigned on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
