The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Brooklyn man that occurred on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. in Mineola.
According to Police, Marian Honciu, 29, of 189 Norwood Avenue was arrested for panhandling in the vicinity of Roslyn Road and East Jericho Turnpike. Upon further investigation, Officers located the defendant’s vehicle and observed a bunny rabbit inside of the car. The temperatures were estimated to be in excess of 120 degrees at the time of the encounter. Officers immediately removed the rabbit and handed it over to the ASPCA. Additionally, the vehicle was found to have a fraudulent out of state license plate affixed to the rear. The defendant, who was ticketed for panhandling less than a month ago, was placed under arrest and his vehicle was impounded.
Defendant Honciu is charged with Confinement of Companion Animal in Vehicle: Extreme Temperatures, Peddlers and Solicitors violation, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 3rd Degree, and multiple VTL violations. He was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, to First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
