The First Squad reports the arrest of a North Merrick man for an incident that occurred on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 5:15 pm in North Merrick.

According to Detectives, Officers responded to a North Merrick residence for a disturbance. Upon arrival it was determined that the defendant Malik Maitland, 24, of 1728 Roberta Lane, was involved in a verbal argument with a 52-year-old female victim. The situation escalated and a male resident called 911. Officers attempted to put the subject into custody when the defendant displayed a knife. Officers had to utilize an Electronic Control Device (ECD), Taser, officers placed the defendant into police custody without further incident. The defendant was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Defendant Malik Maitland is being charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4^th Degree, Menacing a Police Officer, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2^nd Degree and Reckless Endangerment 2^nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Monday, June 23, 2025 at First District Court 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
