The Third Squad reports the details of an incident that occurred on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 12:39 am in Hempstead.

According to Detectives, a female victim was walking eastbound on Front Street near the intersection of Sunset Drive when she was approached by a male subject on a moped. The subject attempted to take the victims purse but the victim fought with him. The subject then pulled out a handgun and shot the victim striking her in the right arm. The subject fled the scene on his moped with the victim’s purse. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

After a thorough investigation Third Precinct Detectives were able to locate the subject, Frederick Morillo Chavez, 21, of 500 West 164^th Street, New York, New York and he was placed under arrest without incident in front of his residence.

Defendant Morillo Chavez is charged with Attempted Murder 2^nd Degree and Robbery 1st Degree. He will be arraigned on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
