The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of an Elmont man for an incident that occurred on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 1:00 pm in Elmont.
According to Detectives, police responded to a Locustwood Boulevard residence for a disturbance. Officers were informed that a verbal argument occurred between the Defendant Lyadell L. Sutherland, 31, of 114 Locustwood Boulevard and a female victim, 22. The argument escalated into a physical altercation resulting in the defendant striking the victim multiple times before forcibly grabbing her around the neck and applying pressure making it difficult for her to breathe. The victim in fear for her life exited the residence. The defendant was located and while police attempted to place him into custody, he became violent and combative causing two officers and a Nassau County Police Medic to sustain injuries during the course of the arrest. The injured officers and police medic were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The victim was also transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. Further investigation revealed the defendant had violated an active Order of Protection.
Defendant Lyadell L. Sutherland is charged with four counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Aggravated Criminal Contempt. He will be arraigned on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street Hempstead.
