The First Squad reports the arrest of a Brooklyn man for Identity Theft that occurred on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 3:09 pm in Baldwin.
According to detectives, police responded to Best Buy located at 660 Sunrise Highway for a male subject attempting to apply for a Best Buy Store credit card. An investigation by detectives revealed that Zhiyong Lin, 27, of 656-55 Street, attempted to open a credit card multiple times using different names and forms of identification. Defendant Lin was placed into custody without incident.
Subsequent to the investigation, the defendant was found to be in possession of several NYS identification cards belonging to multiple victims.

Defendant Zhiyong Lin is charged with three (3) counts of Identity Theft 2nd Degree, Attempted Identity Theft 2nd Degree, three (3) counts of Forgery 2nd Degree and two (2) counts of Unlawful Possession of Personal ID 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
