The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law) on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 1:33 am in Oceanside.

According to Police, officers observed a silver 2005 Jeep commit a vehicle and traffic law infraction while traveling in the vicinity of West Windsor Parkway and Long Beach Road. Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a Vehicle Traffic Law (VTL) stop near the intersection of Long Beach Road. The operator of the vehicle, defendant Denis Peraza Martinez, 38, of 565 Fulton Ave, had glassy eyes and had an odor of alcohol emanating from his breathe. A Standard Field Sobriety Test was conducted resulting in positive results and Defendant Denis Peraza Martinez was placed under arrest without incident. No injuries reported at scene. The vehicles 3-month-old female passenger was safely released into the custody of a family member who was also a passenger in the vehicle.

Defendant Denis Peraza Martinez is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Child Under 16) under Leandra’s Law, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated and a Vehicle and Traffic Law infraction. He will be arraigned on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
