The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Westbury man for a Robbery that occurred in New Cassel at 4:10 a.m. on Thursday, July, 17, 2025.
According to Detectives, police officers responded to a 911 call for a disturbance that occurred on Magnolia Avenue. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the defendant, Ernest Naranjo, 21, of 241 Covert Street, Apt. A, had been involved in an argument with his child’s mother. The child was present during the incident. During the argument the defendant threatened to harm himself with a knife. He also took the victim’s phone when she made her first attempt to call 911. After he took her phone, she fled to her father’s room and called 911. The defendant also took this phone after the victim called 911 and again threatened to harm himself with a knife he had taken from the kitchen of the residence. The defendant then left the scene with both phones and used the knife he had taken from the residence to slash the tire of the victim’s car. Police canvassed the area and were able to locate the defendant and place him under arrest without further incident.
Defendant Ernest Naranjo is charged with Robbery 1st degree, Criminal Contempt 1st degree, Grand Larceny 4th degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, two counts of Criminal Mischief 4th degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He will be arraigned on Friday, July 18, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
