The Third Squad reports the details of the arrest of a Hempstead man for an assault that occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 3:00 a.m. in East Meadow.
According to detectives, a 53-year-old female victim was working as a nurse at the Nassau University Medical Center, located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, when she went to check on the defendant who was using a hallway bathroom for an extended period of time. The victim opened the bathroom door and observed the defendant, Raul Guzman Campos, 40, of 56 Devon Road, damaging the ceiling tiles of the bathroom with an unknown sharp object. The defendant charged after the victim and struck her in the back with an unknown sharp object causing the victim to fall and hit her head. Second Precinct officers who were in the hospital on an unrelated assignment heard the disturbance and were able to place the defendant into police custody without further incident. The victim suffered a back laceration and head trauma and was treated at the hospital for her injuries. No other injuries were reported. Subsequent to the arrest, officers found a clear plastic bag with a brown powdery substance believed to be heroin in the defendant’s wallet.
Defendant Guzman Campos is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Menacing 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. He will be arraigned when medically practical.
