The Eighth Squad reports on a Larceny that occurred on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 12:50 PM in Old Bethpage.
According to Detectives, the Museum of American Armor, located at 1303 Round Swamp Road, was open to the public when a male walked inside. The male subject took out a replica Colt 1911A1 non-functioning pistol from a mannequin’s holster and placed it into his short pocket. The male then walked out of the front of the building and fled in an unknown direction. The investigation is ongoing.
The subject is described as a male white, in his 60’s, approximately 5’10’’ tall and heavyset in weight. He has grey hair and a grey mustache. He was last seen wearing a green baseball cap with a rifle on it, grey polo shirt with an emblem on left chest and brown canvas shorts.

The Eighth Squad reports the arrest of Gerard Asaro, 71, of 25 Coventry Avenue, Mastic for the above incident. According to detectives, the defendant’s media exposure caused him to go back to the museum in an attempt to return the replica pistol. He was arrested at scene without incident on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 2:40 PM. Further investigation indicated the firearm was damaged while in his possession.
Defendant Gerard Asaro is charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and Petit Larceny. He was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at First District Court, Hempstead.
