Third Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Hempstead man for an Assault that occurred on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 6:30 pm in East Meadow.

According to detectives, officers were at Nassau University Medical Center located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike on an unrelated assignment, when hospital staff approached them for assistance. The staff advised officers of an uncooperative patient. The hospital staff and officers advised the patient he was discharged and he immediately became aggressive and combative with officers. While attempting to handcuff the subject, he swung his arm at officers and held on to the top of a desk to resist and prevent his arrest. The subject was subdued and placed under arrest.

Officers were informed that prior to their arrival, Emmanuel Okoro, 66, of 150 W. Columbus Avenue, became aggressive and physical with a hospital staff member. Okoro grabbed the victim’s right wrist and twisted it. The victim suffered substantial pain and a bump on his wrist causing issues with mobility.

Defendant Okoro is charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at First District Court, Hempstead.
