The Third Squad reports on a Grand Larceny that occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at approximately 1:40 PM in Mineola and was reported to police on Friday, August 28, 2026.
According to Detectives, a 76-year-old female received a text message stating that possible fraudulent transactions were occurring on her Apple Pay account and that it needed to be resolved by contacting the phone number listed in the message. The victim complied and between August 25, 2026 and August 27, 2026 she met with two separate males at locations in Williston Park and Mineola before giving them each approximately $30,000 USC. On Friday, August 28 2026, the victim realized she was being scammed and contacted police. The investigation is ongoing.
The first subject from the August 25th incident is described as a white male, approximately 5’6’’ tall with a stocky build. No further description available at this time.
The second subject from the August 27th incident is described as an asian male, approximately 5’6’’ tall, last seen wearing a dark t-shirt and possibly wearing glasses.
