The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Homicide that occurred on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at approximately 2:05 AM in New Cassel.
According to detectives, officers responded to Railroad Avenue in the vicinity of Siegel Street for an aided case involving a victim that had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located the 40-year-old male victim. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced by hospital staff.
The investigation is ongoing.

The victim has been identified as Joseph Fountain, 40 of New Cassel.
Defendant Stephen Primm, 34, of 1327 Illinois Avenue, Bayshore, was arrested for the above incident. Defendant Primm is charged with Murder 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at First District Court, Hempstead.
