The Electronic Squad Fraud and Forgery Section report the arrest of a Westbury man for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument that occurred on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at 1:15 pm in Levittown.
According to detectives, an unknown male entered Famous Footwear located at 3571 Hempstead Turnpike and proceeded to purchase two (2) pairs of shoes. The subject paid with what was believed to be US currency. It was later determined he used counterfeit bills.
The same subject was responsible for using counterfeit bills at Famous Footwear located at 1020 Old Country Road in East Garden City.
A thorough investigation was conducted and Richard Lopez, 32, of 11 Lynwood Drive was arrested. Lopez was found to be in possession of additional counterfeit bills at the time of his arrest.
Defendant Lopez is charged with sixteen (16) counts of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 1st Degree and two (2) counts of Petit Larceny. He will be arraigned on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at First District Court, Hempstead.
