The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Brooklyn man for Assault on Police Officers that occurred on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 5:48 a.m. in Lawrence.

According to Detectives, Fourth Precinct Officers were dispatched for a report of a vehicle stopped near the intersection of Nassau Expressway and Rock Hall Road with the operator appearing to be asleep. Upon arrival, officers attempted to wake up the operator of the red Hyundai Santa Fe when he became combative and spat at officers. Two officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrest as the defendant was violent and combative while resisting arrest. Defendant Luis Chiguano Cuchiparte, 35, of 347A Bleecker Street was taken into custody without further incident. An investigation was conducted and defendant Luis Chiguano Cuchiparte was found to be intoxicated. Both officers were transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. Defendant Luis Chiguano Cuchiparte was transported to nearby hospital for assessment.

Defendant Luis Chiguano Cuchiparte is charged with two (2) counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Harassment 2nd Degree, Open Containers of Alcoholic Beverages in Vehicles, and a Vehicle and Traffic Law Infraction. He will be arraigned on Monday, July 27, 2026 at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
