The First Squad reports the arrest of a North Merrick man for an incident that occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 1:40 a.m. in East Meadow.
According to detectives, officers responded to Convenience and Smoke Shop located at 2050 Hempstead Turnpike for a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers observed a front glass break and located the defendant inside the store. Defendant Antonios Kanakis, 35, of 1878 Wilson Avenue was arrested without incident.
Defendant Antonios Kanakis is charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
