The Eighth Squad reports the arrest of a Plainview man for an Assault that occurred on Monday, October 26, 2026 at 9:45 p.m. in Plainview.

According to detectives, the principal of a Plainview area middle school called police to report a 14-year-old, male, autistic student had scratches and marks on his neck and stomach. During the investigation it was determined that the injuries were inflicted by the male’s father, Jin Chang, 52, who lives in the house with his son and other family members. Defendant Chang used a taser to inflict the injuries to his son in an attempt to control him during an emotional outburst. He was arrested at scene without further incident and the taser was removed from the house by responding officers. The investigation is ongoing.

Jin Chang is charged with Assault 2nd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was arraigned on October 28, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
