The Fourth Squad reports the arrests of two individuals for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 6:16 PM in Inwood.

According to detectives, officers conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law investigation on a male operating a moped with a female passenger in the vicinity of Burnside Avenue and Nassau Expressway. When officers approached, both individuals became aggressive and the male attempted to drive away. Defendant Nicole Demmerele, 40, of 310 Grove Street, Brooklyn, was then successfully placed under arrest. Defendant Jason Adams, 18, of 310 Grove Street, Brooklyn, fled from the scene on foot. Nassau County Police Canine Unit (K9) responded to scene to assist in the search for defendant Jason Adams and he was located nearby and placed under arrest. Officers sustained injuries during the course of the arrests as the defendants were both violent and combative while resisting arrest. Defendant Demmerele was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation. Both injured officers were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Further investigation revealed that the moped was reported stolen out of New York City.

Defendant Jason Adams is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, Resisting Arrest and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. Defendant Nicole Demmerele is charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree. They will be arraigned on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
