The First Squad reports the details of a Serious Vehicular Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 12:07 PM in Bellmore.

According to detectives, officers responded to a call of an auto accident on Bellmore Avenue in the vicinity of Grand Avenue. Upon arrival, it was determined that a male was operating a 2010 Honda northbound on Bellmore Avenue when he struck a 76-year-old male that was crossing the street. The pedestrian suffered a serious leg injury and was transported to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition. An investigation at the scene determined that the driver, Defendant Luis Vargas, 19, of 54 Henry Street, Hempstead was operating the vehicle after consuming alcohol. He was placed under arrest without incident.

Defendant Luis Vargas is charged with DWI. He was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
