The Electronics Squad Fraud and Forgery Section reports the arrest of a Queens man for Grand Larceny that occurred on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 5:00 pm in West Hempstead.
According to detectives, the male victim, 55, arraigned the meet a male selling a 2026 Hyundai Sonata through social media. The victim and subject agreed on a price of $18,000 and cash was exchanged.
The victim was informed by New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) that the title was counterfeit. The DMV determined the Hyundai was reported stolen in the confines of New York City and seized the vehicle.
A thorough investigation was conducted and Kevin A Perez, 25, of 133-02 135th Place, was arrested without incident.
Defendant Perez is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and Forgery 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, September 25, 2026 at First District Court, Hempstead.
