The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Freeport woman for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law) that occurred on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 10:10 PM in Freeport.
According to Police, Freeport Officers conducted a Vehicle and Traffic Law stop on a 2015 Nissan in the vicinity of North Grove Street and Lena Avenue. The vehicle was occupied by the driver, Defendant Zaneta Lachapelle, 43, of 53 North Long Beach Avenue, and her 10 year old daughter. The defendant exhibited signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest without incident. The defendant’s daughter was released into the custody of a family friend.
Defendant Zaneta Lachapelle is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Vehicle Traffic Law violations. She will be arraigned on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
