The Homicide Squad reports the details a Serious Vehicular Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at 12:18 pm in Malverne.
According to detectives, a female pedestrian, 80, was struck by a black Toyota Camry at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Cornwell Avenue. The female pedestrian was transported to a local area hospital where she is listed in critical condition. The operator of the Toyota Camry fled the scene eastbound on Franklin Avenue.
Subsequent to the investigation, police located Matthew Calabrese, 19, of 24 King Street, Malverne and placed him under arrest without incident.
Defendant Calabrese is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Physical Injury. He will be arraigned on Monday, January 5, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
