The Sixth Squad reports the arrest of a Flushing man for an incident that occurred on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 4:40 PM in Manorhaven.
According to detectives, on September 13, 2026, an 84 year old female victim received a security alert on her computer from who she believed to be the Citibank fraud department. The victim called the provided number and was advised to withdraw $30,000 USC and that an FBI agent would meet with her to retrieve it. The victim complied and gave the money to an unknown male who met with her. The victim realized she was being scammed and contacted police.
On Thursday, September 17, 2026, detectives learned that the victim was contacted by the same suspect to provide an additional $18,000 USC. Defendant Han Bing Wu, 31, of 142-19 Barclay Avenue responded to meet with victim to retrieve the money. He was not the same individual the victim met with during the first incident. He was placed under arrest without incident. The defendant was in possession of a substance believed to be Ketamine at the time of arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
Defendant Han Bing Wu is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, September 18, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
