The Homicide Squad reports the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 11:40 p.m. in Hempstead.
According to detectives, a 71-year-old male was operating a 2023 Jeep Gladiator southbound on North Franklin Avenue in the vicinity of Centre Street where he struck a 23-year-old male pedestrian that was crossing North Franklin Avenue. The male victim suffered severe body trauma and was transported by a Northwell Hospital Ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. The victim was pronounced deceased by a hospital physician. The operator of the Jeep remained at the scene.
A thorough investigation determined that the operator of the Jeep was intoxicated. Defendant Jose Forero, 71, of 395 Sherbourne Road, Valley Stream was placed under arrest without incident.
Defendant Forero is charged with Vehicular Manslaughter 1st Degree, Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree and Driving While Intoxicated. He will be arraigned on Saturday, November 1, 2025 ay First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
