The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Michigan man for an incident that occurred on Sunday, October, 19, 2025 at 9:30 pm in Elmont.
According to detectives, police responded to a Norfeld Boulevard residence for a disturbance. Officers were informed that a verbal argument occurred between the Defendant James D. Nelson, 59, of 194 Ogemaw Road, Pontiac, Michigan and a female victim, 59. The argument escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the defendant striking the victim multiple times in the face and head with a closed fist. During the altercation, the defendant also recklessly caused damage to the victim's television.
Upon police arrival, the defendant was located but he became violent and combative causing injuries to two officers, forcing them to utilize an Electronic Control Device, ECD (taser) and Oleoresin Capsicum Spray (OC Spray), which successfully allowed them to place him into custody. The victim, defendant and both officers were transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Defendant James D. Nelson is charged with two (2) counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree and Resisting Arrest. He will be arraigned on Monday, October 20, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
