The Major Case Squad reports the arrests of two (2) Romanian Nationals for a Grand Larceny that occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026 at 2:40 pm in Valley Stream.
According to detectives, a female victim, 73, was standing in front of her residence when a gold Mitsubishi stopped. The vehicle was occupied by a male and female. The female passenger asked the victim for directions to BJ’s Wholesale Club. After providing directions, the female passenger exited the vehicle and asked to hug the victim. Additionally, the female placed two (2) gold-colored necklaces around the victim’s neck before leaving the scene.
A short time later, the victim noticed her gold necklace valued at approximately $2,000 had been removed from her neck.
A thorough investigation was conducted and Mirabela Lacatusu, 26, and Rudi Lacatusu, 28, both of 3 Lisa Road Scarborough, Ontario, were arrested.
It was determined they were responsible for similar incidents in Franklin Square and East Meadow.
The defendants are each charged with three (3) counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree. They were issued Appearance Tickets returnable to First District Court, Hempstead on 10/20/2026.
