The Electronics Squad Fraud and Forgery Section reports the arrest of an Island Park man for an incident that occurred in 2025 in West Hempstead.

According to Detectives, a 43-year-old male victim was an employee at Anatolia Restaurant located at 185 Hempstead Turnpike. In August of 2025 he was notified that there was business financing obtained in his name for the restaurant totaling approximately $80,000 USC. The victim never requested such financing and reported it to police. In conjunction with the Major Financial Frauds Bureau of the District Attorney’s Office a thorough investigation was conducted which resulted in the arrest of defendant Mahmut Unver, 56, of 5 Sheridan Place. He surrendered to detectives at the Eighth Precinct for arrest processing.

Defendant Unver is charged with Grand Larceny 2nd Degree and Identity Theft 1st Degree. He was arraigned on Thursday, October 29, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
