The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Valley Stream man for an Assault that occurred on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 10:50 a.m. in Valley Stream.
According to detectives, a 45-year-old female victim was roller skating in Hendrickson Park, 123 West Merrick Road on Sunday April 12, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. when an unknown male on a two-wheeled manually propelled bicycle began swerving at her in an aggressive manner. He eventually swerved at her in a manner that caused her and the male to fall to the ground. The victim feared for her safety and contacted police to make a report.
On Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 10:50 a.m. the 45-year-old female victim returned to the park and witnessed the unknown male swerving his bicycle in the direction of two elderly females. She called 911 and the suspect fled on his bicycle to his 74 Camdike Street residence. Officers located Matthew Nunez, 21, and placed him under arrest. During the search of the defendant, a switchblade knife was recovered. While securing the defendants seat belt in the patrol car, he became combative and head butted one of the officers. The injured officer suffered from a contusion to his head was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Defendant Matthew Nunez is charged with Assault to a Police Officer, Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree, and Criminal trespass 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
