The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Williston Park man for an incident that occurred on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 5:42 PM in Williston Park.

According to detectives, officers responded to Amherst Street for an aided case. Upon arrival, officers located a 75-year-old female victim who stated she was attacked inside of a Broad Street residence. The victim was involved in an argument with Defendant John Strano, 37, which became violent.   Strano pushed the victim to the ground and repeatedly slammed her head to the ground.  Strano continued to punch her in the face numerous times and struck her head with a blunt metal object.  Strano choked the victim before he fled the scene.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

 The defendant was located nearby, placed under arrest without incident, and transported to an area hospital for an evaluation.

Defendant John Strano is charged with Attempted Murder 2^nd Degree, two (2) counts of Assault 2^nd Degree, Criminal Obstruction Breathing/Blood Circulation and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4^th Degree.
